چکیده

Abstract The haematological attributes during pregnancy assumed new importance when it was realised that is a form of physiological stress and hormones appear to be involved in the process parturition. Hence, an experiment aimed at assessing determining haematological, biochemical hormonal profile conducted for five (5) months using twelve (12) artificially inseminated female West African Dwarf goats aged 2 – 4 years with live weights ranging from 15 26 kg. Does were raised semi‑intensively throughout duration experiment. Blood collected once month analysis. Data obtained analysed by method least squares analysis variance (SAS, 2003) general linear model appropriate completely randomised design. gestation period had highly significant ( p < 0.001) effect on red blood cell (RBC) white (WBC) counts. Cholesterol glucose significantly affected period, similar cortisol progesterone 0.001). It can concluded this study RBC counts highest th week, WBC 8 cholesterol 12 concentrations 20 week gestation, respectively, which reflect demands pregnancy, foetal growth, development. These changes used as tool monitoring health proper handling pregnant does.

Hematological and serum biochemical indices of West African dwarf goats with foreign body rumen impaction.

Hematological and biochemical parameters were determined in 82 West African Dwarf goats with foreign body rumen impaction (FBR) and 40 normal WAD goats without foreign body rumen impaction (WFBR) in order to evaluate their influence on the etio-pathogenesis of rumen impaction. The mean PCV (26.22%), RBC (9.03 X 106/µL), Hb (8.38g/dl) and MCHC (32.20g/dl) were significantly lower in FBR than in ...

Biochemical Effects of Xylazine, Propofol, and Ketamine in West African Dwarf Goats.

Anaesthesia was induced in West African Dwarf (WAD) goats using different combinations of propofol (P), xylazine (X), and ketamine (K), and the biochemical effect of the drugs determined. Twenty male (WAD) goats were randomly assigned to five treatment groups viz. Control (C) (2.5 mL IV normal saline); group K + X (5 mg/kg IV ketamine + 0.05 mg/kg IV xylazine), group P + X (5 mg/kg IV propofol ...

Evaluation of the morphological features of the uterine tubes during postnatal development in West African Dwarf goats (Capra hircus)

The objective of this study was to highlight the postnatal development of the uterine tubes of the West African Dwarf goat from birth to 28 weeks of age by gross examination and light microscopy. There was a caudal migration of the paired uterine tubes from behind the paired kidneys at birth to the pelvic inlet at week 8 of age. Each uterine tube exhibited three segments namely; infundibulum, a...

Influence of naturally unilateral cryptorchidism on the histomorphometry of the testes and daily sperm production in West African Dwarf goats

Quantitative histology of the descended testis of unilateral cryptorchid bucks was compared with testis of normal bucks to evaluate the reproductive potentials of the scrotal testis in unilateral cryptorchids, using light microscopy techniques. The contralateral scrotal testes of the unilateral cryptorchids and the testes of the normal bucks contained profiles of seminiferous epithelium and eac...

Haemonchotolerance in West African Dwarf goats: contribution to sustainable, anthelmintics-free helminth control in traditionally managed Nigerian dwarf goats

West African Dwarf (WAD) goats are extremely important in the rural village economy of West Africa, but still little is known about their biology, ecology and capacity to cope with gastrointestinal nematode (GIN) infections. Here, we summarise the history of this breed and explain its economic importance in rural West Africa. We review recent work showing that Nigerian WAD goats are highly tryp...
